Dear Families,
Welcome to an exciting new school year! We are eager to engage your child(ren) in motivating and valuable learning experiences!
Our students continue to perform at very admirable levels! During the 2008-2009 school year, we again made gains in every subject! Each child is challenged to achieve high standards and is valued as a unique individual while we provide opportunities for academic, social, and personal growth. This involves the following:
- Engaging children’s natural curiosity
- Teaching our students to become proficient, critical readers
- Ensuring students have both a concrete and abstract understanding of math facts and procedures for solving problems
- Teaching students to use critical thinking skills across the curriculum
- Using a variety of instructional strategies, techniques, and materials to foster student learning
- Empowering students to use computers in gathering resources, practicing essential skills, and producing quality products
- Having a zero tolerance policy for fighting, harassment, and offensive language

Your partnership is important to us. Please avail yourselves of our regular classroom newsletters, progress reports, and websites as well as the tried and true visits and calls (799-2520). We value your input and involvement. Should you have any questions or concerns, please address these with your child’s teacher. S/he will handle your communication with efficiency, professionalism, and warmth. Our office staff and administration are also here to help your child have a wonderful educational experience.
Keeping our children safe is critical to their education. Please help us to safeguard all children by
Observing safe and courteous drop off and pick up in the parking lot and on the street
Reminding your children to walk on the hard surfaces such as blacktop and concrete
Ensuring that your children know if they are being picked up, walking home, riding the bus, or attending SafeKey after school. Please make these arrangements before the school day begins so your children feel secure. Awaiting a message from home can be stressful.
Thank you for ensuring that your children
Leave cellular phones in backpacks with the ringers off during the instructional day
Leave toys at home so they are not lost or become a disruption
Adhere to the CCSD dress code
We are honored to hold the privilege of educating your children. Your partnership is integral to our mission!
Yours in education,
Lorraine Blume
